Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023. - Barry Williams/New York Daily News/TNS
A string of anti-Asian attacks across New York City's Upper West Side have been tied to a single woman, Manhattan's District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced.
Camila Rodriguez, 29, has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime, six counts of Assault in the Third Degree as a Hate Crime, and six counts of Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree, covering six different attacks against Asian victims.
All were separate, unprovoked attacks within the course of a month and a half, according to Bragg. All the incidents took place relatively close to each other.
Among the accusations are that Rodriquez kicked a woman of Korean descent in the back of the leg as she tried to board a subway. She pulled the hair of a victim of Chinese descent and then slapped the victim after she turned around and spoke to Rodriguez in Mandarin. Rodriguez then continued to punch the victim after she fell to the ground. In another incident, she attacked a woman of Filipino descent by grabbing her hair and pulling her to the ground and punching her in the face multiple times.
Other incidents are listed in a district attorney press release, which you can read here.

Former President Donald Trump's criminal conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records in New York has led to an upsurge of rhetoric from MAGA-aligned evangelists, wrote Tim Dickinson for Rolling Stone — and they are casting the former president as a religious martyr, and the conviction as a trial for America from which God will deliver the faithful.
Trump supporters comparing the former president to Jesus is not a new phenomenon — but some are solidifying a clearer narrative than ever in the wake of the trial, which centered on Trump's illegally concealed hush payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels to hide an extramarital affair from voters in 2016.
One such voice driving this narrative is Julie Green, an Iowa-based online preacher.
"In a prophetic word filmed shortly after Trump’s conviction, Green delivered a message she claimed was sent down from the most high," Rolling Story reported.

"'Woe to the enemies of Almighty God. You are laughing, thinking you got what you desired,' Green said, voicing her version of the Christian deity. 'I will tell you I will have the last laugh. Your verdict is a joke. And an illusion … I will show you whose verdict really counts. My son is not guilty,' Green claimed God said of Trump.
"'And the world will … see your kangaroo courts, and how they are a joke, and how they are nothing against Me.' Casting Trump in the mold of a biblical king, Green continued, 'I say, you do not have my David where you want him. But I have you where I want you. I told you you will reap what you have sown … Your show is about to end, and my children are about to laugh.'"
Another of these evangelists is Dutch Sheets, a self-proclaimed modern "apostle" who delivered to his followers a vision he had, Rolling Stone reported.
"Sheets related that in this dream Trump said his work would take two terms. 'It’ll be an eight-year process, and it’ll take two men — me then another — for the full sweep of power.' Sheets then insisted that the new convictions showed Trump 'truly is a political martyr,' whose destruction has been sought by 'the leftists, globalist, and Dems,'" the reports stated.
Sheets concluded this sermon by laying down a prophecy: “Trump, he is being martyred politically, but You will raise him up again. And we decree that darkness will scatter in the light, evil will be shaken down and truth will prevail in America.”
The fervor with which many Trump supporters compare Trump's legal struggles to a religious cause has led to widespread condemnations of blasphemy from less radicalized punditry.

'Planning his next crime': Lawyer warns Trump is already plotting more illegal moves
Alex Henderson, AlterNet

Attorney Marc Elias, known for his expertise on U.S. election law and voting rights, has been sounding the alarm about the refusal of MAGA Republicans — including presumptive 2024 GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump — to accept election results they dislike.
Trump continues to claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him. And Elias, in an article published by his Democracy Docket website, warns that Trump and his allies will do everything they can to throw out the 2024 election results if he loses to incumbent President Joe Biden.
"Trump has already told us he will only accept the outcome of the 2024 election if he wins," Elias explains. "He recently claimed he won Minnesota in 2020. In fact, he lost by over 200,000 votes. He is claiming that absent fraud, he will win New York and New Jersey in 2024."

The attorney continued, "Trump is planning his next crime. We don't yet know the exact details, but we know it involves subverting the will of the voters and undermining free and fair elections. And we know that he will spare nothing and no one who gets in his way."
Five months ahead of the November election, Elias warns, Trump and his allies are taking steps to return him to the White House even if he loses.
"Already, his campaign and their allies are suing states to throw out election rules to sow chaos by throwing out the rules by which elections are conducted," the elections expert observes.
"They are litigating to criminalize voter registration, increase the number of ballots that are discarded and purge voters. Perhaps most chilling, they assert a constitutional right to harass election officials and voters."
Elias adds, "Most importantly for this fall, Trump and his allies are focused on empowering election deniers to refuse to certify election results. They tried this in a handful of places after the 2020 election. Now, they are far more organized. Democracy is in far more danger."

President Joe Biden said Thursday he will not pardon his son Hunter if he's convicted of federal gun crimes after prosecutors said he bought a gun while a drug user.
Hunter Biden faces three felony charges stemming from the 2018 gun purchase and possession, and has pleaded not guilty. Questions have been raised over whether Joe Biden would pardon him, particularly after former President Donald Trump pardoned his campaign manager Paul Manafort and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn stemming from special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Trump's contacts with Russia.

On Thursday Joe Biden dispelled those notions, telling ABC News anchor David Muir he would accept the outcome of Hunter's trial. The president also replied, "Yes" when Muir asked if he would rule out a pardon for his son.
